Solar Panel 160W Allblack
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SERIES – PART 4
Auxiliary power is key to enjoying your vehicle as the base for your outdoor adventures. By separating the two electronic systems or circuits and corresponding batteries – one being the one that starts and runs your vehicle – aka main battery, and the other one being the one powering all your lights, heat and other appliances at camp – aka auxiliary battery, you are set up for any overlanding adventure. In this series I will run you through how I’ve designed and set up my electrical system, and explain each component. Feel free to ask questions or share your feedback in the comments section below.
I wanted an allblack solar panel that fit the width of the roof of my Alu-Cab Canopy Camper. At ABAS Marin in Drammen, I found a 160W solar panel that fit perfectly. This was connected directly to my Victron SmartSolar MPPT and helps continuously trickle charge my lithium battery.

Custom Mount
I already had the Alu-Cab Load Bars on top of my Alu-Cab Canopy Camper, and I created some custom brackets so that I could install the solar panel in between two load bars while it was also lowered just enough for anything loaded upon the bars would not scratch the panel. I was pretty happy with this result, and the 1-2 mm lowering both works and looks great.
