Due to stupidly expensive Norwegian taxation on five seated trucks, most Toyota Hilux in Norway are two seats only. Two seats only is no problem for me, however, with th rear row of seats out, there’s suddenly a lot of empty and useful space. Let’s build a custom interior!
Cardboard is your friend in need when doing a similar project. Starting out with some cardboard I designed a template for the back wall agains the rear window. I will not be needing this window as an Alu-Cab Canopy camper is scheduled to be mounted a few weeks from now.

I then transferred the cardboard template to a piece of wood (MDF).

After cutting it out from the MDF I used spray glue and added some textile material before mounting it on to fastening points in tbe back of the car.

Now that this was done, it was time for me to get started on the actual interior. I was determined to build an interiour setup that was customized for both hunting and overlanding. I started off with a simple shelf on the driver’s side.

I then added a separating wall for the mid section. For transportation of weapons and longer items, I decided to open up parts of this wall for items to be passed through it.

This separating wall was build “hollow” for additional storage and to cater for the “beak” facing forwards between drivers’ and passenger’s seat.

This mid section turned out to be a fun project, however, a lot of minor adjustments were need for it to come together and fit well.

I built this interior modular, and it is fairly simple to unscrew 6-8 screws and remove from the car. Thus, it was also fairly easy to install once the textile was added to it.

Starting with the left side, bottom shelf, it was installed first using two screws screwed into the back wall.

Left wall of mid section in place.

Adding the right wall, the mid section was basically done.

I left the passenger’s side rather untouched and empty as this will be my “wardrope” with hangers for clothes and storage for shoes etc. With the roof storage section it will be easy to install radio etc. in the future, and I now have a place for my sunglasses again after installing the Auxbeam Switch Panel.

I am super happy with how this interior build turned out. I have plenty of storage and I even think it looks great!
