A Dream Came Through Today

After weighing my options for way too long, I finally did it and a dream came through! I purchased a 2018 Isuzu D-Max to become my designated hunting rig!

Picture of me at Elverum Auto picking up the Isuzu D-Max.

You know the feeling coming home after a weekend of hunting. The family ride, the main car, needs a full washdown, outside as well as inside. All the gear has to be stowed away to make room for Monday morning work schedule and regular use throughout the week. Come Friday over again, and your back at packing the car for yet another weekend of hunting. This is the reality for most people, including myself. Obviously, it works fine, however, it is by no means ideal. The idea to get a hunting vehicle grew slowly on my and I spent time looking at pizza vans like Volkswagen Caddy, Peugeot Partner and others. At one point i came across a video on YouTube, and from then on a pickup truck was everything I wanted.

Have a look for yourself, and tell me you are not getting inspired?

My 2018 Isuzu D-Max

I litterally called Elverum Auto minutes after finding this car on FINN.no, the major online market place in Norway. Soon after I was on my way to Elverum via airplane, train and taxi. This was my first pickup, and also the first time I experienced products from Alu-Cab. After a short inspection of the car, papers where signed, keys handed over to me and I was on my way back home. The 9.5 hours drive home was pure exitement!

I stopped for a few photo shoots on my way back home. This river crossing was tempting.

The previous owner had done a great job equipping the car with essential equipment, such as:

  • Yakima Lockn’Load roof rack
  • Alu-Cab Expedition Gen 3.0 roof tent
  • Alu-Cab Explorer Canopy
  • 80 watt Skanbatt Solar Panel
  • Awning 250 x 250 cm from Profftelt
  • 240Ah auxillary battery
  • Solar MPPT regulator
  • 12V to 220V Inverter
  • Front head lights and auxillary lighting from Vision-X

I plan to make some minor upgrades, but this car is ready to hunt and overland!

Update March 1st 2023

I ended up selling the Isuzu D-Max. To honor its memory, please have a look at the image gallery on the Photos page.

  1. […] ability to step into the camper and into the bed, without using the ladder I had before (with the Isuzu), was perhaps the main reason why I ended up swapping the Isuzu for the Hilux. I simply wanted a […]

Alu-Cab is a South African company, and while their products obviously work really well across the world, in the Nordic climate a heating option must be added to retain comfort throughout the year. One aspect of hunting that still intrigues me, is that the more you hunt, the more you learn. And you will never be done learning. I almost learnt the hard way on a recent red deer hunt. I set myself up for a perfect situation with two red deer in front of me at around…
