I ordered my iPhone 4 32 GB from Eplehuset a few weeks back, and I actually received it earlier than expected – I was supposed to get it on September 24th but I it was ready for pick-up already on Wednesday September 8th! Consequently, I’ve been an iPhone user for a week and a half, and since I’ve been a strong opponent to anything that has to do with Apple for quite a number of years, you might wonder what my experiences have been so far?
Well, to be honest, I am impressed! I have definitely fallen in love with “the smartphone experience”, and I wonder if I would have been just as happy with an Android phone, e.g. the HTC Desire? For now I am happy with my iPhone – very happy!
I can see why Apple tend to get an increasing number of loyal (some would claim fanatic) fans who cannot get enough of their products. At least three aspects of an Apple products, such as the iPhone, stand out to me:
- The unique design and build quality!
It simply looks and feels very good. It kind of makes you want to show it off? - The user experience!
It is intuitive and very easy to operate! And with App Store you have endless possibilities to customize you phone. - It simply works!
There is no clutter at all. It is responsive, and without any apparent issues – at least for now.
As mentioned above, since this is my first real smart phone, maybe I would have been just as happy with a HTC Android phone. At least the people I know who have the HTC Desire are very happy about it.
Windows Phone 7
The next months or so should be interesting as Microsoft plan to ship their Windows Phone 7 operating system leading up to the Christmas shopping extravaganza. Phone vendors like HTC, Motorola, Samsung and others are lining up to promote their new phones with the long awaited phone OS to replace the “ancient” Windows Mobile 6.5 – which let’s face it is crap!
I believe Microsoft is making a smart move with Windows Phone 7 (WP7), and from what I have seen so far, it looks promising. A major benefit for the Microsoft camp is the huge number of web and desktop developers who will have no problem at all switching to the mobile platform. I therefore believe that the Marketplace for mobile apps for the Windows Phone 7 will grow fast and soon become a real competitor to those of iPhone, Android and other phones.

Many friends and colleagues have questioned my loyalty when buying the iPhone – after all I have been (still am!) a strong supporter (and fanatic fan?) of Microsoft. My answer is this:
Bill Gates has apple.com as the home page on his computer. “Know your enemy”, he says.
I’m simply testing out the iPhone while waiting for Windows Phone 7. Or am I caught by Apple, never to part with my iPhone?
