Although I work with computers and sit at a desk most of the time, a lot of people don’t know this about me; I’m a handyman! It’s true! I am handy to the extent that I fix my own car, service my bike, renovate my house, build cabins, and so on. Inspired by the epic words “let there be light!” – and from what I saw a friend of a friend had done – I set out to build my own sun. Folks, I give you The Black Sun Project!

I built this “little device” to add some spice to my portrait photography. In fact the whole purpose of this humongous light source is to add a circular flash effect in the eyes of my portrait photo subjects. Although I find the idea quite brilliant, I am honest enough not to take credit for it; I was inspired by the work of Jan Fredrik Leversund (http://photonstew.blogspot.com/2009/02/black-sun.html).

All it took me to build it was a a piece of wood, some light bulb sockets from Clas Ohlson, light bulbs from IKEA, some electrical wire, an electrical switch and a aluminum stand to hold it.

I am selling my used Canon EOS 40D. The camera appears in very good condition with no visible wear and tear. Comes with the original Canon BG-E2N vertical grip that gives you the shutter button and control wheel also for vertical shooting, as well as double battery capacity (2 x Canon BP-511A batteries).
